Troubleshooting a Failure in Service Using MAGMASOFT®, MAGMAstress and MAGMAsteel

No one in the steel casting industry wants to hear the dreaded words “failure in service”. And when they do, everyone wants to know why it happened and how it could have been prevented. Join our team of steel foundry engineers as we take a look at a steel casting that failed in service in the mining industry. We will be using MAGMASOFT®, MAGMAsteel and MAGMAstress to see if this failure could have been prevented from occurring if the appropriate simulation tools had been used up front, before castings were made, and before the customer was made very angry. This case study will highlight filling and solidification results including reoxidation inclusion formation, convection and segregation, as well as stress results during cooling and heat treatment.
