Customized additive manufacturing aluminum materials for highly functional, varied structural components in the automotive industry

The overall objective of this project is the development of tailor-made aluminum materials for laser additive manufacturing (LAM) production. MAGMA is a partner for the sub-project "Implementation and validation of new models for the material and process simulation of additive production processes". In close cooperation with the other partners, the following topics will be pursued in the project:

  • Development of tailor-made aluminum materials for LAM production
  • Development of a software tool to simulate material / solidification behavior
  • Optimization of the material-specific LAM process chain
  • Material validation in the LAM process chain with highly functional vehicle structures

The objectives of the subproject involving MAGMA's activities are:

  • Evaluation of existing models for the illustration of fast solidification processes for additive production processes.
  • Implement a suitable process simulation model in MAGMASOFT.
  • Further development of heat treatment and warpage simulation
  • Determination of the material properties of powders and finished components.

CustoMat3D is a BMBF project which is implemented within the framework of the program "Additive Production - Individualized Products, Complex Mass Products, Innovative Materials" (ProMat_3D).
